报告题目:Grain boundary engineering of steels for improved performance
报告内容简介:The nature of the phase transformation (e.g. diffusional or shear) and the subsequent grain boundary network are known to be the key microstructural features which controls certain properties in polycrystalline materials, such as steels. In steel, the transformation product varies as the transformation temperature decreases. Using 3D EBSD it is possible to determine the nature of this transformation and then the nature of the grain boundary network. The crystallography and energy of the grain boundary are critical parameters governing the material performance. The phase transformation in steel leads to distinct intervariant boundaries having different energies, ranging from 306 to 1109 mJ/m2, depending on their character (twist, tilt and mixed). In this talk, Peter will introduce new approaches to the engineering of steel microstructures and properties. Molecular dynamics simulation and experimental observations were carried out to investigate the propensity for crack propagation, the propensity of boundary to hydrogen absorption and their influences on toughness and strength in steel.

报告人简介:澳大利亚工程院院士,联邦院士,桂冠院士,迪肯大学(Deakin University)首席教授(Afred Deakin Professor),曾任迪肯大学副校长(科研)、前沿材料研究院创始院长。1996年加入迪肯大学,此前在必和必拓钢铁公司工作16年并牵头钢铁研发工作。现主要从事先进钢铁材料制造技术、轻金属及钢铁材料变形和再结晶行为、金属3D打印技术和材料先进显微结构表征技术研究。指导博士研究生50余名,发表论文1000余篇,H指数88(Google Scholar),他引超过28000次。被法国瓦朗谢纳大学(University of Valenciennes)和波兰克拉科夫AGH科技大学(AGH University of Science and Technology)授予名誉博士学位,获颁中科院金属所“李薰讲座奖”。
